Hello, my name is
Charlotte Ramirez. I'm a 20 year old french student in 3d animation in l'école
Estienne in Paris and I'm applying for your Character Animation program.
I discovered The
Animation Workshop talking to a former student who's now studying in your
school in Character Animation. When I saw that little sparck in her eye, I knew
that I wanted to go there.
I've heard
nothing but good reviews about The Animation Workshop which encouraged me. I
discovered a very interesting school with a lot of things to teach me. The
student I know also told me life and education in Denmark was very different
from France, that students had a lot of activities and time to practise things
out of school. I'm very sportive and it's vital to me to practice sport, I need
to feel good in my life to be good at work. I would love living abroad for a
while. Because of what I've heard, I know I would love living in Viborg.
Since I was a
child I've always been inspired by drawing, I was already "drawing" at
8 months. Since that time I did everything I could to reach my main goal : make
Art the most important part of my life. I took painting and drawing lessons when
I was 9. Then I choose to take Arts as an option in high school. Two years ago,
after graduation, I was accepted in Olivier de Serres in a MANAA (Applied Arts
Upgrade). This year was very fulfilling to me, it helped me released my
creative part. I did a lot like illustration, volume, sculpture that opened my
mind, but I wanted to "recreate life", to make my drawing live. I
then joined the 3d animation DMA (Art diploma) in Estienne. I learnt a lot about
modeling a character, creating a story, making storyboard... But the part I'm
the most interested in is animation. I've been studying on 3ds Max but I'm
learning to use Maya. I'm good at using photoshop and TV paint. I also know how
to work on After Effect and other software of the Adobe Suite.
I aspire becoming
a 3D animator because I love being on the computer, I feel like I'm an engineer
when I manipulate my software, i like the technical aspect. I feel like
creating life, or like I'm a director on set, making characters playing roles,
making them as expressive as possible. But I also feel like I need to further
improve my drawing skills and get all the basics straight to be a better
animator, to understand the body and the way people and animals moove. That's
what I like in The Animation Workshop, we learn how to animate in 2D to be
better.
I'm crazy about
Cinema in general but I love director with a huge artistic personnality like
Alfred Hitchcock and his suspens stories, (Rear Windows is my favourite movie
beacuse of the suspens and the graphical appearance of it), Stanley Kubrick and
his madness or Wes Anderson, who's one of my favourite. I love the symmetry he
places everywhere and the color he chooses. When you see one of their movies,
you instantly know it's them. I also love John Lasseter because of Toy Story
which is probably the reason I wanted to be an animator. I remember that I was
agape when I first saw it, it happened again when I saw Up! and I still cry
when I see it. Today, when I see an animated movie, especially in 3d, I'm amazed,
I feel like a child every time, as if it was the first time again and again. And
I want to feel this way all my life, that would be living a dream awake.
I've been very
lucky to travel a lot all around the world. I love discovering new places,
people, cultures and other way of living. I've been to Ireland, Italia, USA,
Portugal... I'm also a "dual culture product" so to speak. My father
is spanish and my mother is french and I have a lot of differents origins in my
family like Italians or Portugueses. That is probably the reason why I love
discovering other cultures. I also love learning foreign languages and I would
love learning danish ! Someday, I would like to participate to l'Animation sans
frontière to learn other way of working, to discover other countries.
I've been saving
money for my studies for several years now and I'm looking for a job to save
more. I can pay for one year with what I've save. Moreover, I will probably
find a weekend job to save the rest. About my English level, I sadly do not
have time to attend the IELTS exam but I'll try to pass one before this summer.
These are all the
reasons I'm applying for The Animation Workshop Character Animation programm. I
hope that I caught your attention and that you'll live me a chance to show you
more by having a conversation "face to face".
Sincerely,
Charlotte Ramirez
